Remote I/O Devices and Modules

Remote I/O devices are computer-process interface modules that allow to collect recordings from monitoring devices, information about the I/O channel state and to transmit the collected data to the upper level of controllers or SCADA-systems.

Remote I/O modules can be grouped according to connection interfaces, protocols, I/O channel types and amount. The main advantage of remote I/O modules is that it can be installed remotely, away from a process controller or a computer. All information from devices is transmitted through communication channels in digital format and cannot be distorted, which is the case of analog communication channels.

There exist a great variety of remote I/O modules modifications. They can be distinguished by:

  • interface type: RS-485, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB, CAN
  • applied protocol type: DCON, Modbus, Profibus, Profinet, EtherNetIP, BACnet, EtherCAT, CAN, CANopen, DeviceNET
  • type of I/O channels: analog blockI/O, discrete block I/O, relay output

Functionality of remote I/O devices

Remote I/O devices are small modules with several I/O channels (usually with no more than 10-20 channels for one module). Alongside with regular modules there also exist expansion units that allow installing up to 8 expansion modules and, thus, increase the amount of channels up to 80-160 for a single unit.

Remote I/O modules are optimal for obtaining information from remote objects and save money by replacing whole controller by one or two modules. Our product range includes various modules that support popular protocols and interfaces.
