Moxa has announced a new line of industrial Modbus gateways — the MGate MB3000-G2 series, designed for modern automation systems.

Features and Benefits

  • High-performance Agent Mode with low latency for active polling of Modbus devices and data caching.
  • Supports extended and proprietary Modbus protocols.
  • Auto Device Routing function for fast gateway configuration.
  • Routing by TCP port or IP address for any network architecture.
  • Supports up to 32 Modbus TCP clients.
  • Supports serial port connections in Modbus serial Client and Modbus serial Server modes.
  • Dual Ethernet ports expand network topology options, supporting device cascading or connection to two different networks.
  • Various model options with 10/100BaseTX (RJ45 connector), 100BaseFX (SC/ST connector), and SFP slots.
  • Tools for Modbus protocol diagnostics and traffic monitoring.
  • Models with 2 kV serial port isolation (models with “I” designation).
  • Operating temperature range from –40 to +75 °C (models with “-T” designation).
  • Support for dual redundant power inputs and relay output.

The MGate MB3000-G2 protocol gateways enable devices with RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 interfaces to connect over Ethernet networks for Modbus RTU/ASCII to Modbus TCP protocol conversion.

Example device connection diagram

Upon initial connection, the MGate MB3000-G2 series gateways are immediately ready for Modbus RTU/ASCII to Modbus TCP conversion and do not require additional configuration. The device also supports simultaneous Modbus TCP ↔ Modbus TCP, Serial ↔ Serial conversion, as well as RealCOM* mode.

*This feature is supported only by models with 2 or 4 COM ports

To switch operating modes, simply go to the “Change Topology” section and select the required conversion type.

Agent Mode Function

Pic_en.png

The MGate MB3000-G2 series devices continuously poll connected slave devices and store the collected data in internal memory. As a result, the upper-level system (SCADA) only needs to access the MGate MB3000-G2 gateway memory instead of polling each slave device individually. This significantly reduces data acquisition time.

To enable this function, go to the “Edit Operation Mode” settings and select “Agent Mode.”

The MGate MB3000-G2 series gateways are equipped with an advanced set of cybersecurity features compliant with the IEC 62443-4-2 international standard. This provides enhanced protection against unauthorized access and network attacks, making the devices highly reliable for use in industrial networks and mission-critical systems.

The new MGate MB3000-G2 models are available in several versions: with a DB9 connector or with a terminal block equipped with a push-and-pull locking mechanism. This allows users to choose the most suitable connection method for specific operating conditions. Depending on the model, the device may feature two RJ45 ports, one RJ45 port combined with an SC/ST connector, or one RJ45 port together with an SFP slot. This variety of configurations provides greater flexibility for fiber-optic communication and significantly simplifies integration into existing networks.
