Traditional PDUs often force a choice between simplicity and control: either every outlet stays on regardless of need, or an outage on one branch takes an entire strip offline. The IPM-16230 addresses both problems by giving each of its 16 outlets independent switching, scheduling, and overload protection, while a built-in LCD panel and web/SNMP interface let administrators see and manage power status without walking to the rack. Its vertical 0U design and two cascade ports also make it easy to link several units together to scale up outlet count without using additional rack space.

Each of the IPM-16230's 16 IEC320 C13 outlets can be switched, scheduled, and monitored independently, with the unit accepting a single IEC60309 32A inlet feed at 100–240V, 50–60Hz. Real-time current, voltage, and energy data appear both on the unit's LCD panel and through its web interface or SNMP, so administrators can spot an overloaded branch before it trips a breaker. A built-in 32A circuit breaker and reset switch add a layer of overload protection that keeps a single fault from taking down the whole strip, and per-outlet power-on sequencing with configurable delay times helps avoid inrush current spikes when equipment restarts after an outage.

Beyond outlet switching, the IPM-16230 doubles as an environmental monitoring point for the cabinet. A dedicated RJ11 port accepts the included temperature and humidity sensor, and the unit supports up to three sensors and two controllers in total, with an additional RJ11 port and a USB Type-A port reserved for future expansion. Three digital inputs and two digital outputs allow integration with door contacts, water-leak detectors, or smoke sensors, triggering email alerts or an external siren when a threshold is crossed.

Network connectivity is handled via a single 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet port supporting TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS (TLS 1.2), NTP, DHCP, and Ping, with management available through any modern browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Opera) as well as PLANET's Universal Network Management System (UNI-NMS) and Smart Discovery Utility. Security features include dynamic password verification at login, separate operator/visitor account levels, and IP filtering to restrict management access to trusted addresses.

Physically, the IPM-16230 measures 1126 x 66 x 44.5 mm, weighs 3.1 kg, and is built from an aluminum alloy housing rated for 0–60°C operating temperature and 0–90% humidity — suitable for standard server rooms as well as less climate-controlled cabinet locations. Each unit can supply a maximum load of 7,600W, and PLANET states that up to 255 units can be cascaded together for larger deployments.
