ICP DAS has introduced the GW-2515iM, GW-2525iM and GW-2535iM, three industrial Modbus gateways for connecting Ethernet-based Modbus networks with serial Modbus RTU/ASCII devices. The new GW-2500iM models combine protocol conversion with additional communication and network security functions, including Modbus/TCP Security, HTTPS and IEEE 802.1X.
Security Functions for Modbus and Network Access
The GW-2500iM series supports Modbus/TCP Security in master and slave modes. In the technical specifications, the secured Ethernet protocol is listed as Modbus TCP/TLS.
An integrated web server with HTTP, HTTPS and user authentication is available for device configuration. Additional functions include SNMPv3, IEEE 802.1X and filtering by IP address. The gateways also support 802.1Q VLANs, 802.1p traffic prioritisation and protection mechanisms against DoS and DDoS attacks.
Other supported protocols and network standards include OPC UA, IPv4 and IPv6.
Communication, Interfaces and Installation
The gateways support Modbus TCP and Modbus UDP as well as Modbus RTU/ASCII in master and slave modes. Up to 32 TCP master connections are supported per serial port. A read cache enables faster responses to Modbus TCP/UDP requests.
Two 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet ports enable daisy-chain wiring. If a gateway loses power, the automatic LAN Bypass maintains the Ethernet connection between neighbouring devices in the chain.
Other relevant hardware characteristics include:
- IEEE 802.3af Class 2 PoE or 12–48 VDC terminal-block power;
- isolated RS-422/485 serial interfaces;
- metal housing for DIN-rail mounting;
- an operating temperature range of −25 to +75 °C.
