New challenges for embedded PCs, one answer: the DRPC-240-TGL-U-i5CS

27 October 2022 Product News

Advances in the digitization of processes and their coordination and analysis through tools such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) make modern and flexible hardware an important competitive advantage, but at the same time mean a challenge in building future-proof IT systems that should not be underestimated. The answer to problems such as lasting performance, possibilities for upgrades during productive operation, and upcoming demands on performance lies in versatile and modularly designed embedded PCs such as the DRPC-240-TGL-U-i5CS , which can be individually adapted to different requirements and largely scaled as the need for resources grows.

Modern technologies for current and future challenges

Equipped with an Intel Core i5-1145G7E processor from the 11th generation Tiger Lake, the DRPC-240-TGL-U-i5CS utilizes an extremely powerful Quad Core CPU whose performance at 1.50 GHz base clock and up to 4.10 GHz burst frequency is significantly higher than that of predecessor models. By combining it with a maximum of 64 GB DDR4 RAM and a 2.5'' drive bay, the DRPC-240-TGL-U-i5CS allows a targeted optimization and scaling of the system on various parameters such as computing performance, cost and energy efficiency.

For computationally demanding tasks such as machine vision, neural networks or deep learning, the embedded computer also supports the use of an expansion card in PCI Express x4, which can be used both as a coprocessor and for implementing additional interfaces and exotic interfaces. This supports the trend moving away from exclusively centralized data processing by servers with connected thin clients to a decentrally organized IT infrastructure with high latency on a local and global level.

Embedded PC DRPC-240-TGL-U-i5CS: versatile native I/O for high flexibility

In the basic configuration, the DRPC-240-TGL-U-i5CS has all interfaces that are considered standard in industrial and technical environments and can be modified according to existing specifications: These include USB 3.2 and 2.0, four Serial COM ports with 2.5 kV electrical isolation for peripheral devices, and a 12-bit DIO that allows direct communication with external circuits. The connection to the network is done via Quad LAN with 2.5 GbE - optionally up to four IP end devices like cameras, switches or further embedded PCs can be powered by the DRPC-240-TGL-U-i5CS via a PoE module.

Intelligent, compact and robust design for maximum demands

A special feature that distinguishes the DRPC-240-TGL-U-i5CS from alternative industrial embedded computers is its high flexibility in an extremely compact design that allows DIN rail mounting. A new and optimized passive cooling system with very short fins allows a significantly lower weight with a space requirement that is about one third lower than previous models. The modularity includes internal components such as the two available M.2 expansion slots as well as an extension of the case that allows PCI Express cards to be mounted via a riser module with an active fan. For use in harsh environments - such as industrial or locations with extreme climates - the DRPC-240-TGL-U-i5CS is certified to operate over a very wide temperature range and with vibration and shock in accordance with MIL-STD-810G.

An ideal solution for advanced IT structures

The DRPC-240-TGL-U-i5CS is designed entirely to meet the demands of today's IT infrastructure and includes numerous options to scale and modify the system for installation or upgrade in the future. This also helps to significantly extend the potential lifespan and allows the hardware to be adapted to modern requirements. For this reason, the DRPC-240-TGL-U-i5CS is especially suited for environments designed for long, continuous operation with minimal maintenance: This includes, for example, industrial production of Industry 4.0, but also tools, machines and diagnostic systems for use by end customers.
