The unique and spectacular experiences, along with the service and comfort, are what make a cruise so appealing to many of its guests. With thousands of fellow passengers spread across hundreds of rooms including restaurants, halls, and offerings for leisure, passengers are easily overwhelmed by the multitude of options and thus miss the opportunity to participate in a variety of interesting events and activities. The optimal way to provide everyone on board the ship with a unique and unparalleled experience and to enable them to take advantage of the available offers and services is to have a universal and integrated platform for user-friendly software. In order to provide this permanently and stably and to take advantage of all the benefits of such a solution, it requires a reliable and fail-safe IT infrastructure.
Our customer, a specialized company for high-quality, user-friendly and professional IT solutions, chose a system based on the Neu-X100 PC to implement a universal infotainment system onboard the ship with set top boxes and connected displays between 24'' and 98''. Instead of relying on conventional consumer electronics like many competitors, he opted for Neu-X100 embedded computers designed by industrial standards in a compact slim format because of their reliability, robust design and high computing power.
Reliability: The majority of available set top boxes originate from consumer electronics for private households and do not meet the demands that must be placed on products for commercial use under sometimes difficult conditions. Although they initially require a lower investment, they ultimately cause a significantly higher total cost of ownership (TCO) in the long term due to frequent maintenance and repeated failures of individual devices. They also result in restrictions and inconvenience for travelers and place a burden on staff, who experience an additional workload for information, support, and damage repair and mitigation. To ensure the highest level of reliability, we have the Neu-X100 that features a fanless, industrial grade design that operate at temperatures between -5° Celsius and +50° Celsius without maintenance-intensive hardware. The uninterrupted provision of digital services and information increases passenger satisfaction and represents their well-being as well as that of the crew.
A compact design: Size plays a decisive role for set top boxes - on the one hand, they should remain unnoticeable for guests, but on the other hand, they must be permanently accessible and reachable for technicians and the crew. The Neu-X100 has all the functionality of traditional set top boxes, providing it in a compact design of just 105 x 106 x 37 mm and allowing the installation of custom software as well as central management through remote access.
High performance: The Neu-X100 have optimal characteristics for use as set top boxes on ships. They are based on an energy-efficient Intel Celeron J3455 processor with a clock frequency of 2.30 GHz with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 500 and supports up to 8 GB RAM as working memory. For graphics output, the Neu-X100 PC offers two HDMI ports that drive displays up to 98'' diagonal or higher with resolutions up to 4K. Furthermore, the Neu-X100 has two USB 3.0 ports for peripheral devices and maintenance. In addition, this enables redundant connection to the local network via dual Gigabit LAN and provides sufficient bandwidth for data-intensive applications such as video streaming.
The industrial Neu-X100 embedded system provides cruise and passenger ships with an above-average reliable IT system that is characterized by high energy efficiency and performance. As a result, our customers can provide their guests with a modern and powerful entertainment and infotainment offering that noticeably increases individual comfort and guest satisfaction.
