The newest R8-EX and U11I-EX tablet PCs meet the most strict safety requirements for use in the oil, gas and pharmaceutical industries.
Twinhead International Corp., owner of the Durabook brand, has announced the release of two rugged tablet models specifically designed for use in environments where gases, vapors and dust pose a significant risk of explosion. The new Durabook R8-EX and U11I-EX tablets are certified to comply with European Union ATEX Zone 2/22 certification, meaning they can be used in environments where potential ignition sources include lightning strikes, stray currents, static discharges , open flame and mechanical sparks.
ATEX certificate is one of the main requirements for equipment for use in oil and gas refineries and pharmaceutical production.
The Durabook R8-EX and U11I-EX tablets are ATEX compliant for Zone 2, where the explosive atmosphere is gas, vapor or mist, and Zone 22, where the explosive material is dust or fibres.
Both models feature a fanless design using Durabook's unique Coolfinity™ technology. By eliminating the use of a power-hungry fan, you can extend battery life and eliminate a potential point of failure where dust and other debris can collect.
Employees servicing industrial equipment often need to quickly and easily upload reports and diagnostic results into the enterprise system and receive operational information from department heads. The new Durabook R8-EX and U11I-EX tablets are specifically designed for these purposes. The following key features make this possible:
- 12th generation Intel CPUs ensure smooth performance even in the most demanding applications
- Durabook's patented DynaVue display technology ensures readability even in direct sunlight. The displays of both tablets support four sensor operating modes - with gloves, stylus, rain, standard. Additionally, a digital stylus-digitizer is available for order.
- Wired and wireless broadband technologies including Thunderbolt 4, Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 and Bluetooth V5.3 as standard. Optionally available installed LTE modules on both models and 5G for U11I-EX. GPS is also an option.
- Models are certified to the military standard MIL-STD-810H (and can withstand a drop from a height of 1.8 meters) and IP66 (with maximum protection from dust, dirt and water). Both tablets are also designed to withstand extreme temperatures from -20°C to 60°C.
- In addition, it is possible to install a hot-swap battery or use high-capacity batteries. The U11I-EX has a battery life of up to 10 hours, and with an additional high-capacity battery up to 20 hours. The R8-EX can run up to 8.5 hours on a replaceable main battery and up to 17 hours on an optional high-capacity battery.
