ICP DAS has presented a new PCI Express communication card: PCIe-S114/114i
The new PCIe-S114 / PCIe-S114i communication card has 4 serial RS-232 ports. Each port is equipped with a 256-byte hardware FIFO buffer, allowing data transfer rates of up to 921,600 bps. The PCIe-S114/114i card supports automatic allocation of COM ports by drivers.
The data lines of each serial port on the version of the PCIe card with the suffix “i” in model name are equipped with opto-isolation. Integrated photocouplers use a short optical transmission path to transmit signal between circuit components and provide electrical isolation of data lines. This can help reduce the number of ground loops, common mode voltages and block voltage surges, provide electrical isolation and provide significant protection against severe overvoltage conditions on one circuit affecting another.
In harsh industrial environments, built-in ESD protection components (for i-version PCIe-S114i) divert potentially dangerous charges away from sensitive circuitry, protecting your computer and equipment from sudden and transient electrical currents.
COM port cards are designed for use with smart devices such as barcode readers, serial printers, smart sensors, test equipment, computers and virtually any device with an RS-232 port.
Hardware FIFO up to 256 bytes
FIFO means First In, First Out. It is a way to organize and manage data in relation to time and prioritization.
The FIFO is used for buffering and flow control as data flows from hardware to software. When using a hardware FIFO (buffer), a small delay in the software or operating system will not result in data loss at all.
Key features:
- PCI Express x1 support
- 4 RS-232 ports
- 256 byte hardware FIFO buffer per port
- Data transfer rates up to 921600 bits per second
- Compact board design
