NAT-108: expanding the possibilities of NAT application in industrial communication systems

Integrating NAT into industrial networks involves using solutions that combine efficiency and flexibility.

In our previous article «NAT-102: industrial device for network IP address translation» we took a look at the NAT-102 series Network Address Translation (NAT) devices.

NAT-102 allows you to combine network devices within a single subnet using N-to-1 IP address translation via a switch or 1-to-1 to provide centralized control and management.

However, the application of NAT-102 does not eliminate certain key problems, such as:

  • conflicts between network devices with the same IP address
  • the need to simultaneously connect several network devices from different subnets to one public IP address through one NAT device

MOXA engineers considered the basic requirements for NAT devices and developed a new model — NAT-108.

The application of the new NAT-108 allows you to expand the possibilities of using NAT technology in the enterprise network.

NAT-108 has 8 ports, which allows you to connect up to 7 devices to the enterprise network without using a switch.

It should be noted that NAT-108 allows you to organize data transfer between network devices from different subnets without additional influence from the control system.

An important function of the new NAT-108 is the ability to connect multiple network devices with the same IP address to one control system. This is possible thanks to the IP Twins function, which allows you to connect up to 3 devices with the same IP address.

* Data exchange between devices with the same IP address will not occur.

In combination with 1 to 1, N to 1, Port forwarding and NAT loopback modes, NAT-108 contributes to more efficient implementation of optimization tasks in industrial networks.
