Today we will look at the new CPU board by ARBOR; QSeven COM module EmQ-iX702, but first let's briefly recap what a QSeven module is and how it us used.
Qseven is a computer-on-module (COM) standard designed for compact high-tech systems, approved by the SGET organization.
The main idea of Qseven is to provide ready-made modules from different manufacturers, including all the important components of a regular PC, which are installed on the backplane in accordance with the specific requirements of the application.
Qseven modules have a size of 70x70 mm or 40x70 mm and use a universal high-speed MXM connector.
The 230-pin MXM connector provides the exchange of all I/O signals between the module and the backplane. This connector is already successfully used in laptops for connecting PCI Express video cards.
Qseven modules are characterized by their small size compared to COM Express, ETX or XTX boards, making them a preferred choice for developers who need compact solutions.
The power consumption of Qseven modules is less than 12 W, which is between SMARC (less than 6 W) and COM Express (more than 20 W). Thus, Qseven offers a balanced solution in terms of power consumption.
The Qseven connector has 230 contacts, compared to SMARC (314 contacts) and COM Express (Type 2) (440 contacts), making it an optimal option for projects with moderate requirements for the number of board-to-board connections.
Qseven modules are used in various fields, such as:
- Industrial automation: controllers, HMI panels, production control systems.
- Medical devices: diagnostic equipment, mobile devices for patient monitoring.
- Transport: on-board computers of cars, railway control systems.
- Military: portable communication devices, navigation, monitoring.
- Smart home: security systems, lighting and climate control.
