A Powerful 1U Rackmount NVR with Optimized PoE Management Powered by 14th Gen Intel Core-i processor

09 September 2024 Product News

Trend In the 1U rackmount market, the rising adoption of IP cameras has driven the demand for real-time monitoring of camera status and connections. Users need to ensure that their IP cameras are consistently connected and transmitting data. Power over Ethernet (PoE) functionality has become essential, simplifying installation and reducing the need for additional PoE switches, thereby cutting costs. To meet these demands, most Video Management System (VMS) software integrators now require robust PoE management features, along with SDKs or APIs for seamless and timely integration with their software.

Challenge Traditional PoE switch management, typically handled via Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) over network connections, presents challenges for integration with VMS software. A more efficient approach would involve using serial interfaces, such as RS-232 or UART, to manage and monitor PoE status directly.

Solution To facilitate direct data communication, the system integrates a microcontroller that manages communication between the switch controller and the PoE controller through a UART interface connected to the I/O controller. This architecture allows for quick monitoring and configuration of the switch and PoE status via I/O access, as outlined in Table I.

This innovative PoE communication design simplifies the development and integration of PoE SDKs and APIs for both Windows and Linux platforms. The system offers features that enhance the identification and control of camera connections, including:

  • DHCP for automatic IP address assignment
  • PoE link status detection
  • Individual and global PoE On/Off control
  • IP and MAC address tracking
  • Accumulated traffic monitoring
  • Power Device (PD) class identification
  • Real-time and maximum PoE wattage monitoring
  • MAC binding for enhanced security
  • The DHCP feature, in particular, streamlines installation by automatically assigning IP addresses to specific ports, allowing for quicker setup. Additionally, MAC binding secures the PoE ports by locking them to specific devices, preventing unauthorized access.
