Solution for Campus Network

To connect campus networks to each other, several transmission standards have to be integrated. Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet media converters with data rates of 10 Mbps up to 1000Mbps can help to build, for example, star topology network with multiple fiber connections.

The central point of the system is FRM220-CH20chassis with FRM220-10/100i  and FRM220-1000MS media converters which are used to convert the RJ-45 ports from the copper L2 Ethernet switch (building A) to fiber links that run to different locations across the campus.

At Building B, C and D Fast Ethernet and GbE Fiber Media Converters provide copper-to-fiber connectivity to department switches, and bridging between the Ethernet fiber and the 10/100 or 10/100/1000 switches. Also FRM220-CH08 and FRM220-CH04 chassis may be used for copper-to-fiber conversion. The media converters provide transparent network connectivity, so the switches in the network can be managed via SNMP management software.

The Media Converters and Network Interface devices can be used for a managed fiber infrastructure with remote configuration, performance monitoring and fault notification.
