As new technologies rapidly advance and urbanization continues to grow, there is an increasing demand for transforming transportation systems into technologically advanced vehicles. CTC Union has recently achieved success by implementing "smart bus" systems in public mass transportation. These systems involve equipping buses or minibuses with various networking devices, including 4G WiFi routers, passenger information displays, surveillance cameras, electronic ticketing, and GPS tracking.

The adoption of "smart bus" systems not only enhances the passenger experience by providing innovative and cost-effective networking services but also enables real-time data collection. This data includes fare records, passenger flow, and road conditions, which can be utilized for future improvements and planning. When selecting the appropriate networking devices to establish convenient and efficient "smart bus" systems, several factors need to be considered.

Challenges

  • The networking devices installed in buses frequently operate in harsh environments characterized by vibrations during vehicle movement.
  • The utilization of different networking devices, such as 4G WiFi routers, information display systems, and in-vehicle cameras, enhances passenger services and safety on buses.
  • Buses have limited power sources available.
  • The networking devices should have the capability to be easily upgraded for future scalability purposes.
  • CTC Union presents a solution that addresses these challenges. With our extensive expertise in networking solutions, we offer a wide range of network devices specifically designed for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) applications. Our intelligent bus solutions aim to deliver uninterrupted and dependable network services, ultimately enhancing passengers' experiences and integrating operational information into management systems for future analysis and planning purposes. The key features of our proposed network devices, which are essential for building successful smart bus systems, include the following:

  • Network devices of ITP series are all IP products that are easily connected to other devices and easy to upgrade for future network expansion planning.
  • Network devices of ITP series provide power over Ethernet (PoE) function so that there is no need for powered devices (PD) to run extra power cabling.
  • Network devices of ITP series support 24VDC power input and can boost PoE output voltage to 50VDC.
  • ITP series all support wide range of operating temperatures (-40~70°C) with rugged design.
  • ITP series provide industrial grade EMI and EMS certification to offer better protection against unexpected lightning strikes, ESD or surges.
  • With M12 and M23 connector design, ITP devices are designed to withstand severe shock and vibration, making them reliable for uninterrupted communication in moving vehicles.
  • Application

In this scenario, an ITP switch, powered by a 24VDC battery source, can deliver Power over Ethernet (PoE) to various connected powered devices (PD) within the system. These PDs, which may include in-vehicle surveillance cameras, 4G routers, NVRs, and passenger information monitors, can operate seamlessly without the need for additional power connections.
