11 August 2022 Product News

The proliferation of information systems in rail transport is inspirating operators to find new methods and solutions to make efficient use of the space available on trains. The vROK 3030 open frame panel PCs for rail transport enable operators to replace the traditional IT infrastructure of set top boxes, screens and cables with slim vROK 3030 open panel PCs and displays. They use the new generation of Intel Atom x6414RE processors, support both Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems, and are designed for mobile networking via WLAN and WWAN through standards such as WiFi 6E and 5G NR. Via their integrated LCD display in combination with 1 x HDMI and 1 x DP as graphic outputs, they allow the use of up to three screens per device to display infotainment, advertising or information for passengers. The concept of the Open Frame Panel PC facilitates seamless integration into different environments and installations.

A solution to the complicated dilemma of the many cables

The classic Set Top Box PC is mounted under the seat or behind a casing and connected to screens on the wall or ceiling via several long cables. This approach requires a lot of floor space and complicates installation, which requires, among other things, the complex laying of numerous long cables and signal cables. The vROK 3030 is a CE/FCC and EN 50155 certified open frame panel PC for rail applications that, among other things, offers a space-saving all-in-one (AiO) alternative to the concept of traditional box PCs with external monitors. The use of a panel PC eliminates the need for cabling to the primary display, while only shorter cables are required for display on two other monitors in close proximity.

Powerful Intel processor with numerous options for expansion

The vROK 3030 Open Frame Panel PC uses an Intel Atom x6414RE Quad Core CPU and a 10.4'' display with optional projected capacitive touchscreen, a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and a brightness of up to 1200 nits suitable for direct sunlight. HDMI 1.4b (up to 4K with 3840 x 2160 pixels at 30 Hz) and Display Port DP (up to 4K with 4096 x 2160 pixels at 60 Hz) are available for external displays and graphical output on up to three independent desktops. Other features include support for up to four CVBS or two PoE cameras, for example for video surveillance, and a network connection with a maximum of 2.5 Gbps.

Rich choice of options

For mounting, the vROK 3030 Open Frame Panel PCs support various methods including VESA 75 Mount and optional panel and FlushMount through BOM, as well as numerous built-in options for display such as zoom or stretched screens. Power is supplied either directly via 24 volt DC or via an internal 110 VDC power supply. The 2.5 GbE LAN ports use fail-safe M.12 X-coded and lockable connectors for optimal and reliable data transfer. Support for 5G and WiFi 6E ensures fast and reliable connectivity to wireless networks.

Multiple displays in different constellations

The vROK 3030 Open Frame Panel PC can receive data wirelessly and display it on a maximum of three screens.

  • Centered mounting: e.g. one central vROK 3030 and two screens on the sides of the doors.
  • Front and rear: for screens at both ends of a carriage, the VIP series allows connection via HDMI over long distances
  • Over-the-door display: a combination of a vROK 3030 with identical sized screens for a stretched image format
  • Sleeping car: Use of the vROK 3030 as an infotainment center for multimedia and on-board information such as route, speed or free toilets.
  • Information system for the train driver: use as an interface between the staff and the on-board electronics as a Human Machine Interface (HMI, on request)

Rethinking information systems for passengers

The vROK 3030 Open Frame Panel PC represents the logical choice for making passenger information systems (PIS) efficient and versatile with low maintenance. It reduces the number of cables and the length of signal paths so operators can install, maintain and operate their PIS in a short time and with minimal effort.
