RuggON, a leader in the design and manufacture of ruggedized computers. has recently released a new rugged tablet PA501 for use in harsh weather conditions.
PA501 rugged tablet was tested by a group of UK firefighters. It was loaded with various data: information on chemical air pollution, traffic jams, building diagrams, the location of water sources, etc. This allowed firefighters to conduct exercises that were closest to real.
During the training sessions, a chemical leak from a tank was simulated. Using a 13-megapixel camera, firefighters were able to take pictures of the accident which were then sent to the control center via 4G network. Firefighters also noted the convenience of using the tablet with protective gloves. At the end of the exercise, the tablet’s robustness was put to the test: the device fell accidentally from an altitude of 1.5 meters onto a concrete road and there were no traces of the fall left on it.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor is responsible for the tablet's performance. The OS has been updated to Android 9 Pie, adding support for the Google Manager Service (GMS). The tablet has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, which is sufficient for most tasks.
PA501 rugged tablet has a 10.1” TFT display, protected by Gorilla Glass. The display has a resolution of 1920x1200 and a brightness of 1000 nits and supports hyper-dimming technology that adapts display settings based on ambient lighting. The capacitive touch screen supports multitouch up to 10 contact points and allows you to work in the rain or with gloves.
PA501 model can operate on battery power for up to 26 hours and has a hot-swappable battery. In addition, RuggON's fast charging technology allows the user to charge the battery up to 50% in 50 minutes.
All RuggON tablets are IP65 rated and MIL-STD-810G certified, built to withstand harsh environments, ambient temperatures from -20° C to 60 °C and up to 1/5 meters drops.
