MGate 5135/MGate 5435 series Modbus RTU/ASCII/TCP to EtherNet/IP gateways

26 April 2023 Product News

EtherNet/IP technology allows you to create reliable information and control systems in complex manufacturing environments such as automotive, aerospace, electronics, etc. But it is not always possible for engineers to find EtherNet/IP-enabled equipment that would simultaneously meet all the necessary requirements. . In such cases, one solution is to use a pair of equipment operating on a different industrial protocol (eg Modbus) in conjunction with an EtherNet/IP protocol gateway. To accomplish this task, MOXA offers to use MGate 5135 and MGate 5435 gateways. These models can be used both for integrating Modbus devices into an EtherNet/IP network, and for collecting data from an existing Modbus network via the EtherNet/IP protocol by the upper level.

The single-port model MGate 5135 has 1 COM port with 2kV isolation for polling Modbus devices via RS-232/422/485 serial communication lines.

While the 4-port model MGate 5435 has 4 separate COM ports with 2kV isolation and allows polling Modbus devices via 4 different RS-232/422/485 serial communication lines.

Both models have 2 Ethernet ports for simultaneous connection to the EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP networks, a slot for a microSD card (up to 32GB in size), a backup power input and a built-in relay. The MGate 5135/MGate 5435 gateways are designed in accordance with the IEC 62443-4-2 cybersecurity standard.

The IEC 62443 standard includes recommendations for different parts of the network and for those who have different responsibilities in working with it. Level 4-2 describes the technical requirements for the security of IACS components.

Of the main software features, these gateways have the ability to poll via SNMP, protocol diagnostic functions, traffic monitoring, tag viewing, etc.

Basic setup of MGate 5135 and MGate 5435 is carried out via the web interface. For fast parameter setting on the Modbus side, offline setting via CSV file is also possible. Built-in HTTPS encryption, in turn, provides additional security when using the gateway in an insecure network. You can monitor the status of the gateway through a special system panel in the WEB interface:
