Kyland presents Opal8-E-2M6T-SC05 — 8-Port Unmanaged DIN-Rail Switch for Automation Control
Opal8-E-2M6T-SC05 is an entry-level industrial Ethernet switch for automation control cabinets and brownfield networks. The device combines six 10/100Base-T(X) RJ45 ports with two optional Fast-Ethernet fiber/RJ45 ports (SC/ST or 100Base-X SFP) in a fanless IP30 metal housing — ideal where a compact, reliable DIN-rail Fast-Ethernet switch is needed.
What it is
Six copper ports handle local I/O, while up to two fiber uplinks bridge distances and electrical domains. Models cover −10…+60 °C (standard) and −40…+75 °C (wide temp). Power accepts 12–48 VDC or 18–30 VAC with dual redundant inputs (< 4.6 W), and a DIP switch enables broadcast-storm protection for legacy segments.

Why it matters
In retrofit panels, the constraints are power budget, space, and compliance. Opal8’s low draw, small footprint and hazardous-location approvals allow “install-and-forget” expansion of legacy Fast-Ethernet segments — without the overhead of managed features you don’t need.
Deployment notes
- Fiber reach: choose optics for 5, 40, 60 or 80 km (1550 nm for 80 km) or use 100Base-X SFPs for flexibility.
- Cabinet hygiene: enable the DIP-switch storm control when adding HMI/PLC nodes to busy lines.
